MARTIN, Tenn. - After a brief three-game hiatus, the University of Tennessee at Martin baseball team returns to Ohio Valley Conference play when it hosts the SIU Edwardsville Cougars at Skyhawk Field on May 2-4. First pitch times for the series are set for 6 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 3 and 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 5.

This series marks the first time that SIU Edwardsville has visited Skyhawk Field since 2011, a series where UT Martin took two out of three games.

The Skyhawks (6-34, 3-18 OVC) are coming off a week in which they posted a pair of impressive wins over nonconference opponents. After turning away Atlantic-10 conference leader Saint Louis on Tuesday, UT Martin split with traditional Missouri Valley Conference powerhouse Missouri State over the weekend.

Taylor Douglas continued his red-hot stretch at the plate, as he crushed four homers in three games last week, including the game-winner in Friday’s win against Missouri State. Freshman Nick Molina also had a great week, hitting .455 (5-for-11) with three RBI’s for UT Martin, who went a perfect 7-for-7 in the stolen base department last week.

Against SIU Edwardsville, the Skyhawks will go with their normal starting pitching rotation that features three juniors. Left-hander Taylor Cox (0-9, 7.92 ERA) will get the starting nod in Game 1, followed by southpaw Dalton Potts (0-7, 9.00) on Saturday and righty Alex Martin (0-7, 4.23) in the series finale. That trio will try to get a lead to a UT Martin bullpen who posted a 1.54 ERA with just nine hits allowed and 10 strikeouts over 11.2 innings of work last week.

The Cougars (15-26, 12-12 OVC) won two out of three in a home series over Morehead State last weekend, paced by reigning OVC Player of the Week Skyler Geissinger, who hit .467 with three homers and nine RBI’s in four games last week.

SIU Edwardsville’s announced probable starting rotation calls for junior right-hander Ryan Daniels (6-0, 3.10 ERA) in the series opener, followed by sophomore righty Jarrett Bednar (1-3, 7.94) in Game 2 and sophomore right-hander JD Williams (0-0, 3.38) in Game 3. Closer PJ Schuster (9.00 ERA) has tallied four saves and a win in a team-high 19 appearances out of the bullpen.
