MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – The University of Tennessee at Martin golf team ranks sixth out of 11 team after one round of play at the Ohio Valley Conference championships played at the Fighting Joe course on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.
The Skyhawks carded a round of 299 (+11) this morning, as nine of the 11 squads were over par today. Jacksonville State (280, -8) leads the team standings after the first day of action.
Ben Reeves (71, -1) led UT Martin today, playing steady golf with three of his four birdies on the day coming in the final eight holes to finish in sixth place on the day. Brendon Caballero birdied three of the first five holes and was the next best finisher for the Skyhawks with a 74 (+2).

“We didn’t get off to a very good start – our team was 5-over after the first hole,” UT Martin head coach Jerry Carpenter said. “After about four or five holes, I thought we really settled down and played very good golf. We hung in there and gutted it out and I was proud of the way we finished. We have the opportunity to post some good scores tomorrow after we make a few adjustments.”
The Skyhawks will tee off Round 2 action on Saturday, April 26 at 9:40 a.m. The third and final round will take place on Sunday, April 27. To follow along with hole-by-hole live scoring, click on this link.
