MARTIN, Tenn.– The University of Tennessee at Martin softball team will look to honor a pair of Skyhawk seniors this weekend when playing host to Ohio Valley Conference foe Southeast Missouri in the final home series of the season. The Skyhawks will recognize members of the university’s faculty and staff with a UTM Appreciation Day doubleheader on Saturday, April 26 at 1 p.m. Senior Day festivities will happen prior to first pitch on Sunday, April 27 at 1 p.m.
The Skyhawks (23-24-1, 10-9 OVC) are looking to get back on track against the Redhawks after dropping eight of their last nine games. With a win in the series, the Skyhawks would nearly secure a berth in the upcoming OVC Tournament.
Prior to Sunday’s game, the Skyhawks will honor two seniors as they play their final game at Bettye Giles Field. Your UT Martin Class of 2014 was part of only the second Ohio Valley Conference Regular Season championship, along with the program’s second trip to the NCAA Tournament after winning the 2012 OVC Tournament. Together, the 2014 seniors of Stephanie Nidiffer and Kayla Wade have combined for 234 hits, 10 home runs, 95 RBIs, 77 stolen bases and 143 runs scored over their four-year Skyhawk careers.
Southeast Missouri (8-30, 2-16 OVC) is led by the play of Savannah Carpenter who has posted a .412 batting average along with nine doubles, one triple, four home runs and 21 RBIs. Haylee Krack leads the Redhawk power hitters with nine home runs and 25 RBIs.
