MARTIN, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee at Martin baseball team starts a seven-game homestand with a Tuesday, April 22 matchup against current Atlantic 10 Conference leader Saint Louis at Skyhawk Field. The game time has been moved back to 4 p.m. and the game will be streamed live, free of charge on OVC Digital Network at the link above.

After these two teams played at least once every season from 1997 through 2009, this will only be the second meeting between these squads in the last five years. UT Martin has won five of the last six against the Billikens at Skyhawk Field dating back to 2001.

The Skyhawks (4-33) are coming off a tough road sweep at Morehead State over the weekend. UT Martin kept Game 1 close before falling 6-3 and led Game 2 of the series after six innings of play before the Eagles posted a 14-6 comeback win. In the series finale, the Skyhawks also kept things tight before falling 6-4.

Offensively, UT Martin was guided by Ben Upton (.462 batting average, two homers, seven RBI’s) and Taylor Douglas (.417, two homers, three RBI’s). The trio of John Houston (three innings), Dalton Potts (five) and Alex Boshers (3.2) also performed well on the mound, combining for a 1.54 ERA over 11.2 innings.

Against Saint Louis, the Skyhawks will start senior righty Chris Ross (0-4, 10.62 ERA) on the hill. This will be the 11th appearance (fourth start) of the season for Ross, who has conceded zero home runs over 20.1 innings this season (the second-longest active streak on the team behind Houston’s 23.1 innings).

Saint Louis (23-14) enters this series fresh off a three-game home sweep over Richmond. Right fielder Danny Murphy hit .455 with four RBI’s and two runs scored in the series while the Billiken pitching staff conceded only 15 hits, led by Matt Eckelman (win in Game 1, save in Game 3).

Freshman right-hander Zach Girrens (0-2, 5.29 ERA) is listed as the probable starting pitcher for Saint Louis. He shined in his first start of the season last Tuesday, allowing just one earned run on three hits over six innings before he was hit with a no-decision against Ohio Valley Conference leader Southeast Missouri.
