WACO, Texas – The No. 11 seed University of Tennessee at Martin equestrian team fell to No. 6 Baylor by a 12-4 margin in the opening day of the National Collegiate Equestrian Association championships at the Extraco Events Center.

The Skyhawks, who were making their eighth straight postseason appearance, conclude the 2013-14 season with a 5-8-3 overall record. A total of 10 of UT Martin’s 16 competitions came against teams who qualified for the NCEA tournament.

Hunter Ralston tallied both of the Skyhawk points in Hunterseat. Her 146-point performance in equitation on the flat and 150-point effort in equitation over fences served as a jumpstart for UT Martin.

In horsemanship, Kenzie Perry (131 points) provided the Skyhawks with a point while Sam Knight’s 141 points resulted in a head-to-head point during a close battle in reining.

However, those four scores were the only points that UT Martin could account for as its bid to advance into the second round for the second straight season was put on hold.

This result wraps up another successful season for the Skyhawks under head coach Meghan Corvin. UT Martin spent four consecutive weeks in the top-10 national polls earlier this season and boasted a pair of NCEA All-Americans (Reid Rickett and Mykaela Van Selus) and five NCEA academic team honorees (Melanie Aiosa, Laney Hixson, Sarah Sutton, Sydney LaFreniere and Kaylan Herbst).
