SKYHAWK SOFTBALL SET TO HOST TENNESSEE TECH AND JACKSONVILLE STATE IN WEEKEND DOUBLEHEADERS

MARTIN, Tenn.– The University of Tennessee at Martin softball team will look to rebound from last week when they host a pair of Ohio Valley Conference doubleheaders over the Easter weekend. The Skyhawks will play host to Tennessee Tech on Friday, April 18 with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. before turning to OVC leader Jacksonville State on Saturday, April 19 at 1 p.m.

The Skyhawks (22-19-1, 9-6 OVC) struggled offensively in their last weekend against Eastern Illinois, managing just four hits in the three-game series. Kayla Wade will look to spark the Skyhawk offense this weekend with her team-leading .341 batting average while Deven Wilson posts a .310 average to go with three home runs and 21 RBIs. Lauren Smith leads the team in power, knocking five home runs and 19 RBIs.

The pitching staff is led by freshman Elizabeth Wiegand and Casey Vincent. Wiegand leads the team with a 10-5 record and 115.2 innings pitched while posting a 2.84 ERA. Vincent has posted a 5-6 record along with a 2.50 ERA and 78.1 innings of work. Brooke Kennedy comes through in relief, posting a 1.58 ERA along with a 4-1 record and three saves.

Tennessee Tech (15-31, 7-10 OVC) comes to town hot off a three-game sweep of Tennessee State which saw the Golden Eagles outscore the Tigers 23-2. The Golden Eagles are led by Angi Sakamoto with a .318 batting average, five home runs and 26 RBIs. Danielle Liberatore leads the team with an 8-10 record along with a 3.83 ERA and 83 strikeouts in 113.1 innings of work.

Jacksonville State (29-12, 13-4) comes into this weekend’s action as league leaders behind the play of Sara Borders with a .456 batting average, 11 doubles, 11 home runs and 40 RBIs. Kalee Tabor joins Borders with 10 home runs and 32 RBIs. Tiffany Harbin paces the Gamecocks in the circle with a 12-6 record and 137 strikeouts in 112 innings of work.
