CHARLESTON, Ill. – The University of Tennessee at Martin softball team was held to just three hits on the day as its eight game winning streak was snapped at the hands of defending Ohio Valley Conference champion Eastern Illinois with a pair of 1-0 setbacks this afternoon.
The Skyhawks (22-18-1, 9-5 OVC) received hits from Kayla Wade, Kelsey Dixon and Carly Gonzales, but could not find an answer for the two-headed monster that is the Eastern Illinois pitching staff. Hanna Mennenga and Stephanie Maday both produced 10 strikeout performances, holding the Skyhawks to a .068 batting average on the day.
Despite the performances of the two Panther aces, the Skyhawks received solid pitching performances from their three pitchers. Freshman Elizabeth Wiegand earned the start in Game 1, pitching 5.1 innings while allowing one earned run. Casey Vincent got the start in Game 2, tossing a six inning complete game, striking out two while issuing two walks and one earned run. Brooke Kennedy appeared in relief, pitching 0.2 perfect innings.
