CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.– The University of Tennessee at Martin cross country teams produced another solid showing this past weekend in its track meet at the Joey Haines Invitational hosted by Southeast Missouri at the Abe Stuber Track & Field Complex.
The Skyhawks were paced yet again by the stellar pace of Colin Johnson who finished second overall in the 5000 meter run with a time of 15:09.61, setting yet another record in the 5k. Justin Morgan and Joey DeSantis were not far behind, finishing fourth and five with respective times of 15:28.72 and 15:35.67. Wrapping up the top-10 finishes for the Skyhawks was Dalton Hudlow with a time of 15:42.01 to finish seventh.
Five Skyhawks competed in the women’s 5k, led by the play of Hayley Doty who finished with a time of 19:22.31. Three other runners finished closely together as Grace Lucas (20:22.43), Abby Frantom (20:27.39) and Olivia Owens (20:55.83) posted similar times on the day. Heather Mullis wrapped up the Skyhawk contingency with a time of 22:18.90.
"The race started slow, putting Colin off pace early, but he finished strong to get the UT Martin record,” said UT Martin coach Gordon Sander. “Justin added his fourth top-10 all-time UTM performances in the same event with freshman, Joey DeSantis, getting a top-10 slot in another event this season. Hayley was five seconds off her personal best for her first 5K of the semester while Grace got yet another personal best. They and the rest of the team will be more rested for our last competition in two weeks."
