MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin senior women’s basketball players Heather Butler and Jasmine Newsome have been granted an invite to work out in front of WNBA scouts, coaches and General Managers at the prestigious, invitation-only ProHoops Combine this weekend in Nashville.

The ProHoops Combine, set for Saturday, April 5, at the A-Game Sportsplex, is held in conjunction with the Women’s Final Four and will showcase the nation’s top seniors and professional players the opportunity to be evaluated by WNBA officials prior to the upcoming draft. Members of the combine staff include Linda Hargrove, Jessie Kenlaw and Crystal Robinson.

“Heather and Jasmine have both been terrific ambassadors not only our program, but for our university and West Tennessee,” said UT Martin coach Kevin McMillan. “We are very excited that they will be able to continue to represent our program at this weekend’s ProHoops Combine. To even be invited to an event like this just speaks to their dedication, drive and ability.”

Butler, a native of Medina, Tenn., ranks as UT Martin and the Ohio Valley Conference’s all-time leading scorer with 2,865 career points after being named the league’s Player of the Year. Butler ranks tied for 16th on the NCAA’s all-time scoring list while she scored in double figures every game of her career, spanning 129 games and ranking fifth all-time. She leaves UT Martin as the best three-point shooter in NCAA history with a record-tying 392 career made three-pointers, including a pair of NCAA three-point records set as a junior.

A Millington, Tenn. native, Newsome was named OVC Player of the Year twice, OVC Defensive Player of the Year three times en route to ranking second on UT Martin and the league’s all-time scoring list with 2,566 career points. She also is the UT Martin record holder for single season free throws made (167), career free throws made (617), single season points (770), single season assists (193) and career assists (687). College Sports Madness named her All-Mid Major Player of the Year and Mid Major All-American.

Butler and Newsome leaves UT Martin as the OVC’s top two career scorers, ranking as the first pair of teammates to ever rank first and second on the conference’s scoring list. The pair led the team to 87 wins in four years, the program’s first two outright OVC season championships, four OVC Tournament championships and four NCAA Tournament berths.

The WNBA Draft is schedule for April 14.
