MEN'S RODEO TEAM FINISHES FIRST; WOMEN FINISH SECOND AT EAST MISSISSIPPI

WEST POINT, Miss. – The University of Tennessee at Martin men’s team won its fourth straight rodeo while the women’s squad tallied a season-high in points to place second at East Mississippi Community College this weekend.
Entering the weekend as the No. 4 ranked team in the nation, the UT Martin men’s team accumulated 725 points while the women’s team compiled 290 points. The men’s team won the rodeo by 171.7 points over Missouri Valley College while the women’s team finished 150 points behind Troy.
Three UT Martin cowboys accounted for points in bareback riding. Colt Kitaif finished second in average (148), second in the first go (74) and split third in the short go (74). Tanner Phipps placed third in average (147) after posting the third-best score in the first go (72) and the second-best tally in the short go (75). Tyler Waltz also factored into UT Martin’s point total by placing first in the short go (77) and sixth in average (77).
In calf roping, Will Lummus came in at second place in average (19.8) while finishing second in the first go (9.6) and third in the short go (10.2). Clark Adcock finished fourth in both average (21.2) and short go (10.3) while Lane Mitchell placed fifth in average (21.4), first go (10.3) and short go (11.1). Clay Brewer also split sixth in the first go with a score of 10.6.
Kayla Baier pieced together a dominant performance in breakaway roping. She finished first in average (6.6), first in the first go (2.9) and split second in the short go (3.7).
A pair of UT Martin cowboys were responsible for points in steer wrestling. Lummus’ average of 10.3 finished first while his first go (4) and short go (6.3) placed him in first and third, respectively. John Alley (5.5) finished in third place in the first go.
In goat tying, Natalie Fletcher’s 9.5 first round led to a sixth place finish while she split sixth in her short go (11.6).
Clay Mitchell and Lane Mitchell earned second place honors in the first go of team roping, producing a time of 6.0.
The UT Martin women’s team had yet another strong showing in barrel racing thanks to Nealey Dalton. She led the field after the first go (15.49) before placing fourth in average (31.26) and fifth in the short go (15.77).
Matt Smith put the finishing touches on a successful outing by finishing in fourth in the first go of bull riding (70).
UT Martin will head back on the road for its final rodeo away from home of the regular season when it competes at Northwest Mississippi Community College on April 3-5.
