MARTIN, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee at Martin baseball team takes on in-state Ohio Valley Conference rival Tennessee Tech for a weekend set at Bush Stadium. First pitch times for the series are as follows: 6 p.m. on Friday, March 21; 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 22; and 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 23.

The Skyhawks (2-17, 1-5 OVC) are coming off a pair of close losses (5-2, 6-5) in a doubleheader at Evansville on Tuesday. Senior Zack Malone went 2-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and four RBI’s in the nightcap to help UT Martin take a 5-0 advantage through two innings in Game 2 but the Skyhawks could not salvage a split. Taylor Douglas and Drew Erie each started both games of the doubleheader and each tallied three hits to lead the Skyhawks.

Offensively, Douglas has been UT Martin’s best hitter recently, as he is hitting .529 (9-for-17) over his last five games. He has three multi-hit games in that span, including an impressive three extra-base hit performance (home run, two doubles) in the win over Murray State last weekend.

This weekend, UT Martin is going with its original three-man starting rotation that the Skyhawks deployed for the first three weekends of the season. Junior southpaw Taylor Cox (0-4, 4.82 ERA) will get the starting nod in Game 1, followed by junior lefty Dalton Potts (0-3, 9.51) in Game 2. Junior right-hander Alex Martin (0-3, 3.04) is expected to start the series finale on Sunday.

Tennessee Tech (17-4, 4-2 OVC) leads the OVC in 10 offensive categories, including batting average (.326), slugging percentage (.512) and on-base percentage (.432). Meanwhile, the Golden Eagle pitching staff leads the league with a 3.46 ERA, only conceding four home runs in nearly 190 innings of work.

Offensively, Daniel Miles leads the OVC in hits (37) and runs scored (32) while Brandon Thomasson ranks first in the league in slugging percentage (.744) and RBI’s (26) and Preseason All-American Zach Stephens has swatted a league-best six homers.

The Golden Eagles’ probable weekend starting rotation is junior righty David Hess (4-0, OVC-low 1.12 ERA) on Friday, followed by freshman righty Evan Fraliex (1-0, 3.38) in Game 2 and junior righty Chris Chism (2-0, 5.28) on Sunday.
