MEN'S RODEO TALLIES THIRD STRAIGHT WIN AT SOUTHERN ARKANSAS

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The University of Tennessee at Martin men’s rodeo team came away with its third victory in a row while the women’s rodeo team finished fifth at Southern Arkansas.

The UT Martin men’s team piled up 855 points, which was 370 more than second-place Missouri Valley College. Meanwhile, the women’s squad tallied 80 points.

UT Martin dominated the bareback riding event, as Colt Kitaif finished first in average (146), first in the first go (73) and split second in the short go (73). Tanner Phipps placed second in average (142), split second in the short go (73) and third in the first go (69). Tyler Waltz ranked as the best in the short go (75) while finishing third in average (40) and fourth in the short go (30).

Clark Adcock placed first in the short go (9.7) in calf roping while finishing second in average (19.3) and splitting fifth in the first go (9.6). Will Lummus’ first go score of 9.1 earned him top honors before he finished fifth in both average (21.4) and the short go (12.3).

In breakaway roping, Jacy Thrasher put together an impressive performance in the first go, as her 3.3 finished second. Natalie Fletcher finished sixth in average with a total of 9.7.

Clay Mitchell accounted for a 19.2 average in steer wrestling – good enough for third place – while also finishing fifth in the short go (11.6). Clay Brewer came in third in the short go (8.3) before finishing fifth in average (21.6).

A trio of UT Martin cowgirls accumulated points in goat tying. Micayla Gray split second in the short go (7.7) while Tammi Jo Swearingen came in fifth in the short go (14.5). Lauren Wagner also finished fifth in the short go (9.3) and sixth in average (17.9).

In team roping, Jacob Dagenhart teamed with Southern Arkansas’ Kelly Beahm to a first place finish in average (14.2) and in the first go (6.4). They also combined to split second in the short go with a score of 7.8. Adcock joined forces with John Alley to finish second in the first go (6.5) and sixth in average (6.5 on 1). Meanwhile, Lummus and Tucker Kail racked up points in average (23.6, fourth), the first go (8.0, fifth) and the second go (15.6, fifth).

Kayla Baier placed first in the short go (15.75), second in average (31.81) and fourth in the first go (16.06) of barrel racing. Katie Brown also had a strong start in the first go, as her 15.82 ranked first out of the 10 competitors.

UT Martin will take a well-deserved break from official competition before resuming action at East Mississippi Community College on March 27-29.
