MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin equestrian team will close out the home portion of its 2014 schedule with a pair of home competitions this weekend at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Pavilion.

The Skyhawks will take on Minnesota-Crookston on Friday, March 7, followed by a matchup against the No. 1 team in the nation in South Carolina on Saturday, March 8. Both competitions are slated to begin at 10 a.m.

Saturday will also serve as Senior Day for UT Martin, as head coach Meghan Corvin will recognize seniors Melanie Aiosa, Erin Douglas, Laurel Ellzey and Kaylan Herbst for their career contributions.

A native of Paris, Tenn., Aiosa has posted a 3-2-2 record in seven meets with an average score of 59.6 in reining this season. After graduation, she plans to continue with school and get her M.S. in forage production, then look for a job in the forage industry or working for the extension service.

Douglas has compiled a 3-3-1 record with a 69.3 average score in equitation, while tallying a 2-3 mark with a 49.8 average score of equitation over fences. The Collierville, Tenn. native hopes to graduate in the spring of 2015 and plans to pursue a degree in nursing.

A team captain, Ellzey boasts a 6-3 record in nine horsemanship matches this season with a 71.2 average score. The Tucson, Ariz. native plans to go to an accelerated nursing program and get her BSN in nursing.

A Farmington, Mo. native, Herbst has compiled a 4-4 record with a 71.1 average score in eight meets in equitation. She plans to graduate in December of 2014 with a degree in agribusiness and three minors in international studies, marketing and business administration. She hopes to work for an agriculture company within the Midwest and continue her education while working in hopes of getting a graduate degree. She also plans to continue riding and showing horses after graduating and helping out on her family farm in Missouri.
