MARTIN, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee at Martin baseball team opens its Ohio Valley Conference slate this weekend when it takes on the Jacksonville State Gamecocks at Rudy Abbott Field. First pitch times are set for 6 p.m. on Friday, March 7 and 1 p.m. on both Saturday, March 8 and Sunday, March 9.

After Mother Nature has altered the Skyhawks’ schedule for their last two scheduled series, UT Martin will be taking the field for the first time in six days on Friday. The threat of inclement weather last Sunday forced the Skyhawks to play a doubleheader on March 1 at Stephen F. Austin and UT Martin’s scheduled Wednesday doubleheader at Central Arkansas was cancelled because of icy conditions. The forecast in Jacksonville is calling for a 50 percent chance of rain this Friday but the final two days of the series look clear.

The Skyhawks (1-10) have altered their pitching rotation for this weekend. Redshirt senior right-hander Alex Boshers (0-1, 3.00 ERA) was originally listed as a starter for Game 1 of the Central Arkansas series and now is expected to open the series against the Gamecocks. UT Martin will follow with sophomore southpaw Dalton Potts (0-1, 9.22) and junior righty Alex Martin (0-2, 2.70) in Game 2 and Game 3, respectively.

Jacksonville State (6-5) is coming off a 5-2 loss at in-state rival Samford on Wednesday. The Gamecocks has previously taken two of three games in a weekend set against Kennesaw State, including a marathon 9-8 victory in 17 innings last Sunday.

The Gamecock lineup features three regulars who hit .300 or better, led by Ryan Sebra (.324). Griff Gordon’s nine RBI’s lead Jacksonville State while Preseason All-OVC selection Michael Bishop has scored eight runs.

Senior righty Taylor Shields (2-1, 4.50) is slated to start Game 1 of the series for the Gamecocks, followed by Zachary Fowler (1-1, 3.86) is the announced starting pitcher for Game 2. The starting pitcher for Game 3 is yet to be determined. Preseason OVC Pitcher of the Year Travis Stout has been automatic out of the bullpen for Jacksonville State, notching four saves in five appearances.
