SKYHAWK SOFTBALL SET FOR APPEARANCE IN UCF SPRING FLING

MARTIN, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee at Martin softball team will cap off its Spring Break swing through the state of Florida with an appearance in its final non-conference tournament in the UCF Spring Fling beginning Friday, March 7-8.
The Skyhawks (6-11-1) most recently played a doubleheader at Bethune Cookman on Tuesday, winning game one 8-0 in five innings before dropping game two 8-6. Freshman Elizabeth Wiegand led the way for the Skyhawks with a complete game shutout in five innings of work. Wiegand notched seven strikeouts while allowing just one hit on the day. Kayla Wade and Deven Wilson each tallied three hits on the day while Wilson and Renate Meckl tallied three RBIs.
Offensively, the Skyhawks are led by senior Wade who maintains a .362 batting average while tallying a team-leading 21 hits. Wade has tallied two doubles, two triples, a home run and four RBIs on the year. Deven Wilson joins Wade over the .300 mark, tallying 16 hits, six doubles and 10 RBIs.
In the circle the Skyhawks have gone to Wiegand who has posted impressive numbers as a freshman. Wiegand leads the team with a 4-2 record, eight starts, five complete games and 47.2 innings of work. She has held opponents to a .195 batting average while posting a 2.50 ERA. Tate joins Wiegand with four complete games, posting a 3-2 record while tallying a 3.30 ERA in 29.2 innings of work.
