February 27, 2014
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Jessica Cobb and Dacotah Faught, both members of the University of Tennessee at Martin rifle team, have earned a spot in the upcoming NCAA Rifle Championships, held at Murray State University on March 14-15.
The duo becomes the first Skyhawk participants in the NCAA Championships since both Jaymi Collar and Heather Tillson made the trip out to Colorado Springs, Colo. in 2006.
Cobb and Faught were chosen based on the scores submitted from the NCAA Qualifer held on Feb. 22, also at Murray State. In fact, the NCAA Championships will be the third time that the UT Martin pair has shot in Murray in a little over 50 days. Cobb and Faught are part of a select group to make the field, as only four shooters were chosen to take part in the air rifle portion of the championships.
A senior out of Cedar Hill, Tenn., Cobb chalked up All-Ohio Valley Conference second team accolades in both air rifle and smallbore. She posted an average air rifle score of 581 over the span of 13 competitions, tying a career-high with 590 points in air rifle at the Ole Miss Open on Sept. 28. At the NCAA Qualifier last weekend, she fired a 588.
The 2014 OVC Freshman of the Year, Faught also earned All-OVC smallbore first team, All-Newcomer smallbore, All-OVC air rifle second team and OVC All-Newcomer accolades in her debut season. The Amenia, ND native averaged a 585.2 score in air rifle and set a new school record with 597 points at the NCAA Qualifier this past weekend.
Those two will join 2014 OVC Coach of the Year Bob Beard for all the NCAA Championship festivities. The air rifle competition will be held on Saturday, March 15 in the CFSB Center on the Murray State campus.
