MEN'S HOOPS PLAYS HOST TO OVC WEST CHAMPION MURRAY STATE ON THURSDAY NIGHT
February 23, 2014
MARTIN, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee at Martin men’s basketball team continues its four-game homestand against Ohio Valley Conference West champion Murray State in the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center on Thursday, Feb. 27. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
The Skyhawks (8-21, 3-11 OVC) will be looking for a season split against the Racers, as Murray State claimed a 91-77 home win over UT Martin on Jan. 5. In that game, the Skyhawks were within striking distance late (trailing 70-63 with 4:24 left to play) but Murray State went 11-for-12 from the free throw line to close out the contest. Terence Smith (19 points), Marshun Newell (17), Myles Taylor (15) and Justin Childs (10) all cracked double-figures in the scoring column for UT Martin.
Murray State (17-9, 12-2 OVC) enters the contest on a four-game winning streak and having won 12 of its last 14, most recently downing Morehead State by a 69-58 margin at home last Saturday. The Racers shot 57.7 percent (15-for-26) in the first half and led by as many as 24 points against the Eagles, the second place team in the OVC East. Cameron Payne, who tallied a game-high 27 points against UT Martin earlier this year, poured in 23 points to lead the Racers against Morehead State.
