UT Martin Invitational Full Results

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin rifle teams hosted its own tournament and also made the short trip to Murray State to compete this past weekend, which served as the final tune-ups before the Ohio Valley Conference championships.

The Skyhawks performed well in its own UT Martin Invitational, as the No. 14 nationally ranked mixed team produced an aggregate score of 4,586 (2,260 smallbore, 2,326 air rifle) and the No. 21 nationally ranked women’s team compiled 4,469 points (2,196 smallbore, 2,273 air rifle).

Later in the week in the Withrow Open at Murray State, the Skyhawks competed in a stacked field which featured six of the top 12 teams in the nation, including No. 1 Kentucky, No. 3 West Virginia and No. 4 Jacksonville State. Competing alongside some of the nation’s best, the UT Martin mixed team made some noise of its own – shattering a school record with 2,338 air rifle points. That score – combined with 2,259 smallbore points – resulted in a total score of 4,618, which is two points shy of the school record. The Skyhawk women’s squad turned in an aggregate score of 4,488 (2,229 smallbore, 2,259 air rifle) in the Withrow Open.

“The student-athletes in our program performed exceptionally well in these two tournaments, setting a team air rifle record and setting or equaling 11 individual career bests,” UT Martin head coach Bob Beard said. “I am extremely proud of their effort. Their hard work paid off with a win in our own tournament and a score in the Withrow at Murray that will help solidify our top 20 ranking. We placed seventh at Murray but every team that beat us is ranked in the top 12 in the country.”
