MARTIN, Tenn.
– Senior Heather Butler on the University of Tennessee at Martin women’s basketball team has once again been tabbed adidas Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for the second consecutive week. In addition to OVC honors, Butler garnered Player of the Week honors from the Tennessee Sports Writers Association on Tuesday afternoon after becoming the all-time leading scorer in OVC history.

The senior guard tallied 26 points along with three assists and three rebounds at Morehead State. She knocked down four three-pointers and was perfect from the charity stripe, going 8-for-8. Butler made history at the 4:12 mark of the second half when a layup elevated the guard into first place on the OVC’s all-time scoring list, passing Tennessee Tech’s Cheryl Taylor (2,526 points) whose record stood for 27 years.

A Medina, Tenn. native, Butler finished with an impressive 35 points while tying a career high with seven three-pointers against Tennessee Tech. Along with her impressive scoring night, Butler tallied five rebounds to go with three assists to lead the Skyhawks to the program’s first 7-0 start in OVC play.

Butler now sits atop the OVC leaderboard with 2,567 career points, which ranks 42nd all-time on the NCAA scoring record book. She has reached double figures in 117 straight games, the third longest consecutive double-digit scoring streak in NCAA history.

Butler and the Skyhawks will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 25 when they play host to SIU Edwardsville. Action from the Elam Center is scheduled to get underway at 2 p.m. in the first game of a doubleheader.
