MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin mixed rifle team turned away Ohio Valley Conference foe Morehead State by a 4,592-4,554 margin over the weekend at the Skyhawk Rifle Range.
The nationally-ranked Skyhawk mixed squad compiled 2,271 points in smallbore and 2,321 points in air rifle. The UT Martin women’s team posted an aggregate score of 4,451 (2,193 smallbore, 2,258 air rifle).
The mixed team was led in smallbore by Steve Hahn, who fired a 575. Dana Maurizio shot a 570 while Dacotah Faught added a 565. Sean O’Brien’s score of 561 and Joe Barefoot’s tally of 557 rounded out the team scoring.
Individually, Jessica Cobb tied a career-high with a score of 566. Nikki Kroll (556), Logan Hunt (555), Jordan Jensen (529) and Jacob Stolley (516) also shot as individuals for the Skyhawk mixed team.
On the women’s side, Breanna Flint compiled a team-high 556 points in smallbore. She was followed closely behind by Jordan Goodwin (554), while Alex Haid fired a career-high score of 547. Kelly James (536) and Katrina Klaes (526) completed the scoring.
Jamie Arnett shot a 548 as an individual in smallbore, a remarkable performance for her first smallbore score since an injury and wrist surgery last spring.
In air rifle, Maurizio and Kroll paced the mixed team with scores of 581 apiece. Cobb was responsible for a score of 580, followed by Faught’s 579 and Hunt’s 573.
O’Brien led the individuals with a 567, while Stolley (561), Barefoot (558), Hahn (554) and Jensen (549) also competed individually.
Flint (570) once again led the women’s team in air rifle, followed by Arnett’s 564. Goodwin and Haid each shot a 562 while James rounded out the scoring with a 558.
Klaes (541) shot as an individual for the women’s team.
“After four contests in eight days, this was not a great score but it was a good one with a solid team performance that got us a win over an OVC opponent,” UT Martin head coach Bob Beard said. “We had some bright spots with Jordan Goodwin and Alex having a good day overall. Logan is shooting very consistently, Nikki had a great air rifle score and Jacob has shot two consecutive very good air rifle matches. We are all looking forward to an off weekend to get some rest.”
The Skyhawk rifle teams will be back in action on Nov. 2 when they travel to Rose-Hulman.
