MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball team concludes a four-match Ohio Valley Conference road swing this weekend when it takes on Tennessee State on Friday, Oct. 18 and Belmont on Saturday, Oct. 19.

Historically, the Skyhawks have had success at both of these road sites in Nashville. UT Martin is 12-8 all-time at Tennessee State while posting a 4-2 record in matches played at Belmont.

UT Martin (8-14, 2-4 OVC) has been led offensively all season by junior Emily Keaton, who has a team-high 236 kills (2.78 per set). Recently, the Skyhawks have received a lift from freshman Madison Wessling, who has slammed down 2.55 kills per set and has led the team in kills in three of the last four matches. Allie Whimpey (2.49 kills per set) and Amanda Crask (9.69 assists per set, sixth in the OVC) also pace the UT Martin offense.

Defensively, Chelsea Bowles ranks fourth in the OVC with 4.45 digs per set for the Skyhawks. Lynsey Hazelwood ranks second on the squad with 2.48 digs per set while Keaton (2.32), Colleen Larson (2.27) and Crask (2.01) all average over two digs per set. Julia Devinney (55 blocks, 0.72 per set) leads UT Martin at the net.

Tennessee State (5-11, 2-4 OVC) is coming off a 3-2 win over Memphis on Tuesday night. In that match, reigning OVC Offensive Player of the Week Naomi Wells recorded a match-high 19 kills to go along with 19 digs while Erika Moss (47 assists, 21 digs) also added a double-double.

Wells ranks second in the league in both kills (3.70 per set) and points (4.22 per set), while Moss’ 10.07 assists per set also ranks second in the OVC. Ileanushka Maldanado (3.54 digs per set) and Sherryce Butler (0.64 blocks per set) guide the Tigers.

The reigning OVC Tournament champions, Belmont (10-12, 3-3 OVC) is coming off back-to-back 3-0 sweeps of Jacksonville State and Tennessee Tech on the road last weekend. Hannah Miranda captured OVC Setter of the Week accolades after handing out 68 assists and helping the Bruins to a .307 attack percentage in those two matches.

Jessica Vestal leads the Bruins with 3.09 kills per set while Allison McCoy’s .347 attack percentage ranks third in the OVC. Miranda’s 10.04 assists per set ranks third in the league while Jamie Lundstrom (4.17 digs per set) and McCoy (0.70 blocks per set) lead the Belmont defensive attack.
