VOLLEYBALL TEAM BEGINS FOUR-MATCH ROAD SWING THIS WEEKEND AT OVC WEST RIVALS

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball squad kicks off a four-match Ohio Valley Conference road swing this weekend when it travels to Murray State on Friday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. and to Austin Peay on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 2 p.m.
The Skyhawks enter the weekend with an 8-12 overall record and a 2-2 OVC mark. UT Martin split a pair of five-set matches last week, downing Southeast Missouri on Oct. 1 followed by a narrow loss to Tennessee Tech on Oct. 4.
Junior Allie Whimpey had a team-high 30 kills in the two matches last week, while Madison Wessling added 21 kills. Amanda Crask handed out 106 assists – including a career-best 62 assists to go along with 12 kills and 16 digs for her third career double-double against Southeast Missouri.
Defensively, Chelsea Bowles recorded 44 digs last week, including a career-best 33 against Southeast Missouri. Lynsey Hazelwood scooped up a career-best 18 digs against Southeast Missouri and followed that with 16 digs against Tennessee Tech, while Emily Keaton also averaged a double-double (21 kills, 22 digs) last week.
Murray State (11-7, 1-3 OVC) won its OVC opener 3-2 against Tennessee Tech on Sept. 27 but has lost three straight since, two of which went into five sets. Last week, the Racers fell 3-2 at Austin Peay on Oct. 1 before falling to Morehead State 3-0 at home on Oct. 5.
Alyssa Lelm’s 235 kills lead the Racer offense, as she ranks second in the OVC in both attack percentage (.350) and points (3.72 per set). Scottie Ingram averages 2.99 kills per set while Sam Bedard averages 9.69 assists per set to help guide Murray State offensively.
Katlyn Hudson has recorded a team-high 288 digs (4.06 per set) while Lelm’s 39 blocks (0.55 per set) lead the Racers defensively.
Austin Peay (6-14, 3-1 OVC) saw its three-match winning streak snapped on Tuesday with a 3-0 loss at No. 25 Missouri. The Lady Govs picked up a pair of OVC victories last week at home over Murray State (3-2) and Eastern Kentucky (3-0).
Offensively, Calyn Hull’s 204 kills (2.79 per set) lead Austin Peay, while Jada Stotts averages 4.00 kills per set (140 kills in 35 sets). Cami Fields has handed out 657 assists (9.00 per set) for the Lady Govs, whose only OVC loss came in a five-set decision over Jacksonville State on Sept. 27.
Defensively, April Adams’ 214 digs (3.06 per set) pace Austin Peay, while Stotts averages a team-best 3.63 digs per set. Lauren Henderson’s 48 blocks pace the Lady Govs at the net.
