VOLLEYBALL SQUAD CLOSES OUT HOMESTAND WITH FRIDAY NIGHT MATCHUP AGAINST TTU

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball team will look to improve to 3-1 in Ohio Valley Conference play when it hosts league rival Tennessee Tech on Friday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. at Skyhawk Fieldhouse.
The Skyhawks (8-11 overall) have taken advantage of a season-long four-match homestand over the past week, jumping out to a three-way tie for the OVC West lead. UT Martin has won three straight over Tennessee Tech dating back to 2011 and with a win can start off 3-1 in league play for just the third time in program history.
UT Martin is coming off an impressive 3-2 victory over defending OVC West champion Southeast Missouri on Tuesday. In that match, the Skyhawks put together a stellar performance – setting new season-highs in kills (79) and digs (108). Offensively, five UT Martin players cracked double-figures in kills, led by Amanda Crask’s triple-double (12 kills, 62 assists, 16 digs) and a career-best 17 kills out of Madison Wessling. Defensively, both Chelsea Bowles (33) and Lynsey Hazelwood (18) set new career-highs in digs while Emily Keaton (12 kills, 13 digs) added a double-double.
Tennessee Tech (4-9, 0-3 OVC) enters the match having lost four straight matches, including a 3-0 loss at Jacksonville State on Tuesday night. Natalie Penrod slammed down a team-best 10 kills while Courtney Smith collected a match-high 16 digs for the Golden Eagles.
Ellen Conti’s 131 kills (2.73 per set) lead Tennessee Tech while Cody Dodd leads the OVC in service aces (0.40 per set) while ranking fifth in attack percentage (.301) and eighth in blocks (0.79 per set). Smith’s 195 digs (3.98 per set) pace the Golden Eagle defense.
