WACO, Texas – The University of Tennessee at Martin equestrian team chalked up a huge victory this afternoon, defeating Kansas State in Hunter Seat via a raw score tiebreaker in the first round of the National Collegiate Equestrian Association championships held at the Extraco Events Center.
The No. 9 seed Skyhawks tied No. 8 Kansas State 4-4 but claimed the win because of a raw points tiebreaker (1122 to 1012). Later in the day, the No. 10 ranked UT Martin Western squad concluded its season with a tough 5-3 loss to No. 7 South Dakota State.
In Hunter Seat, Reid Rickett (score of 151) and Hunter Ralston (158) earned points in Equitation over Fences. In Equitation on the Flat, Mykaela VanSelus chalked up a score of 137 to receive a point, while Reid Rickett’s ride (131 score) earned the split and gave UT Martin the advantage in points.
Against South Dakota State, Megan Marie Foley (137 score) and Michelle Chulock (138.5 score) accounted for points in Reining to even the overall score at 2-all. The Skyhawks battled in Horsemanship, as Amy Guenther (144 score) picked up a point. However, it wasn’t enough – as a pair of UT Martin riders came up just shy of retrieving points (falling 142-140 and 140-138.5).
