GOLF TEAM MAKES PUSH IN FINAL ROUND, FINISHES FOURTH AT TSU BIG BLUE INTERCOLLEGIATE

OLD HICKORY, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin golf team carded the lowest score out of all 14 teams today at the Tennessee State Big Blue Intercollegiate, moving all the way up to fourth place in the final standings with a three-round total of 856.
The Skyhawks turned in a third round score of 276, which was four shots better than the next-highest finisher – tournament champion Southern Illinois. UT Martin finished the day at 12-under par and 8-under for the tournament.
“We really had a great day today,” Skyhawk head coach Jerry Carpenter said. “The kids played well and we corrected a few mistakes from yesterday. We made a lot of putts and that made a big difference.”
Senior Graham Sleigh led the charge today for UT Martin, firing a 67 which ranked as the best third round score out of all 93 competitors. Brendon Caballero built off his solid second round score with an outstanding 68 today, finishing in a tie for fifth in the tournament.
Ben Reeves (70) and Tyler Shellnut (71) also shot below par this morning. Clay Harbin improved his score for the third straight round, finishing with a 74 to complete the third-round scoring for the Skyhawks.
UT Martin freshman Tyler Guy led all individuals with a tournament score of 213, capped off by a solid 71 effort this morning. Taylor Deming (75) and John Michael Sisinni also concluded solid efforts today.
“We had a great finish and our kids are excited,” Carpenter said. “Hopefully this will give us some momentum going into the conference tournament.”
UT Martin will now prepare for the Ohio Valley Conference tournament, which will take place on April 24-26 at the GreyStone Golf Course in Dickson, Tenn.
