JONESBORO, Ark. – The University of Tennessee at Martin golf team carded a final round score of 302 in blustery weather conditions to finish ninth out of 20 teams at the Arkansas State Red Wolves Intercollegiate at RidgePointe Country Club.
The Skyhawks finished with a total score of 897, ending the tournament third amongst the seven Ohio Valley Conference schools in the field.
“Today was all about survival,” UT Martin head coach Jerry Carpenter said. “It was severely cold and windy. The course was very tough and we weren’t able to make a lot of birdies. Our guys hung in there pretty well and played hard and that’s all I can ask of them. A top-10 finish is pretty good – we’ll take it and move on.”
John Michael Sisinni led the Skyhawks today with a third round score of 73. Graham Sleigh carded a 74, while Brendon Caballero fired a 77. Ben Reeves (78) and Tyler Shellnut (80) rounded out the team scoring for UT Martin while Taylor Deming carded a 78 as an individual.
Overall, Sleigh’s 222 led the Skyhawks in the tournament, followed by Reeves’ 225. Sisinni finished with a total score of 228, followed by Caballero’s 230 and Shellnut’s 232. Deming compiled a three-round total of 228, finishing third amongst those competing as individuals.
UT Martin concludes its regular season schedule on April 14-16 when it travels to Hermitage, Tenn. for the 2013 TSU Big Blue Intercollegiate. The tournament will take place at the Hermitage Golf Club.
