TENNIS TEAM NARROWLY FALLS 4-3 AT AUSTIN PEAY

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin tennis team came close to securing another Ohio Valley Conference victory at Austin Peay, but the Lady Govs picked up a 4-3 win on Saturday afternoon.
The Skyhawks (2-10, 1-1 OVC) gained the early momentum by sweeping the doubles point. Anna Marie Herbold and Ivon Simic earned an 8-0 victory at No. 1, while Johanie Van Zyl and Katie McCall tallied an 8-1 triumph at No. 2. Anna Winkelmann and Jessica Silva rounded out the sweep with an 8-4 win at No. 3.
In singles play, UT Martin earned victories at No. 2 and No. 6. Herbold downed Austin Peay’s Ornella di Salvo 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2, while McCall chalked up a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Mary Theresa Kubek at No. 6.
However, Austin Peay won the remaining four points including a comeback win at No. 3 to clinch the victory.
The Skyhawks will return to action on Tuesday, April 2 when they travel to Southeast Missouri. First serve will take place at 3 p.m.
