NEWSOME NAMED ADIDAS OVC PLAYER OF THE WEEK

MARTIN, Tenn. –Jasmine Newsome, a guard on The University of Tennessee at Martin women’s basketball team, has been named the adidas Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for her effort this past week against Eastern Illinois and Austin Peay.
Newsome, from Millington, nearly had a triple-double in the victory over Eastern Illinois as she finished the game with 17 points, seven rebounds and nine assists. She also had four steals and a block in the win.
In the victory over Austin Peay, she scored a team-high 26 points to go with four rebounds and four assists. She also added a steal and a block.
Newsome helped the Skyhawks to back-to-back victories to close out the season.
UT Martin is now 16-14 overall and 11-5 in the OVC. The Skyhawks will be the No. 4 seed in the OVC Tournament and will play the winner of the No. 5 Eastern Kentucky vs. No. 8 Murray State game. The game is set for noon, Thursday, March 7 at historic Municipal Auditorium.
