MARTIN, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee at Martin men’s basketball squad looks to wrap up a slot in the upcoming Ohio Valley Conference tournament when it travels to Austin Peay for the regular season finale on Saturday, March 2 at the Dunn Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
The Skyhawks (9-19, 5-10 OVC) are currently battling with three other teams for the final two spots in next week’s OVC tournament. UT Martin can clinch a spot with a win or a SIU Edwardsville loss at Eastern Illinois and could potentially earn the No. 7 seed if both the Skyhawks and SIU Edwardsville were to win their respective games.
UT Martin is coming off a big 69-68 victory at OVC West leader Murray State on Thursday. The Skyhawks led for almost 35 minutes in that game and received double-digit scoring outputs from Mike Liabo (20 points) and Myles Taylor (15).
Austin Peay (7-23, 3-12) enters the game having lost three straight, including a 108-81 home loss to Southeast Missouri on Thursday night. Travis Betran’s 26 points led four Governors who reached double-figures in the scoring column, but Austin Peay could not overcome an OVC-record 20 three-pointers by Southeast Missouri, who shot 67 percent from the field including 61 percent from three-point range.
