WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER SETS NEW NCAA SCHOOL RECORD

MARTIN, Tenn. – Heather Butler, the junior guard on The University of Tennessee at Martin women’s basketball team, has set a new NCAA record for consecutive games scoring a three-point field goal (70).
The Medina native broke the record set by Loyola Chicago’s Maggie McCloskey who scored a 3-pointer in 69 consecutive games.
Butler’s streak started Jan. 19, 2011 (her freshman season) against Southeast Missouri State. She made four treys in the game. She made at least one 3-pointer in the final 14 games of her freshman season.
As a sophomore, Butler made at least one 3-pointer in 32 consecutive games to tie the single season record set by Michelle Hughes of Portland State in 1991.
This season Butler has made at least one 3-pointer in 23 consecutive games.
Butler has made seven 3-pointers in a game four times in her career, the last time being Feb. 25, 2012 against Jacksonville State. She also made seven treys vs. Murray State (Dec. 22, 2010); Louisville (Dec. 28, 2010); and at Eastern Kentucky (Jan. 21, 2012).
Butler has made at least five 3-pointers on five occasions this season. She made five treys at Eastern Illinois (Jan. 28, 2013) and finished the game with 25 points.
