MARTIN, Tenn. – For the second consecutive semester, student-athletes at The University of Tennessee at Martin earned at least a 3.0 or better. One semester removed from a school-best 3.0 Grade Point Average (GPA), the student-athletes earned a 3.05 GPA for the Fall 2012 semester.

“I’m so proud of our student-athletes for achieving a 3.0 GPA for two consecutive semesters,” said Phil Dane, UT Martin director of intercollegiate athletics. “And after drilling down into the details it’s obvious to me that we can move the overall GPA even higher.

“We are continuing to work with the Faculty and Staff Relations Committee of the Athletics Board and Dr. John Schommer, our Faculty Athletics Representative, to identify more strategies to help our student-athletes excel academically,” said Dane.

More than 150 student-athletes made the Dean’s list while 32 made a perfect 4.0.

“The common denominator is a culture that we have established that expects academic excellence and extra effort,” Dane said.
