WOMEN GIVE NO. 4 STANFORD A GOOD FIGHT IN RAINBOW WAHINE CLASSIC

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team suffered a 92-68 loss to No. 4 Stanford in the Jack in the Box Rainbow Wahine Classic at Hawaii Sunday night.

With 7:53 to play in the first half, Skyhawk senior Rickiesha Bryant made a layup to cut the Cardinal lead to one point, 27-26. At the half, Stanford led 41-31.

UT Martin guard Jasmine Newsome had 10 first-half points, while teammate Heather Butler had seven points.

Stanford was paced by forwards Chiney Ogwumike and Joslyn Tinkle who scored 12 points each.

Stanford stretched its lead to 27 points in the second half.

Butler led all scorers with 28 points, while Newsome scored a dozen and freshman Kati Schubert scored 10 points.

Stanford’s Ogwumike and Tinkle finished the game with 25 points each. Amber Orange scored 12 points, while Bonnie Samuelson tossed in 11 points.

Ogwumike led Stanford with 10 rebounds. The Cardinal won the battle of the boards 46-26.

 UT Martin returns to action at 7 p-.m., Monday, Nov. 26 when it host No. 8 Louisville in the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center.
