WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM KEEPS THINGS RESPECTABLE AGAINST GRINER AND DEFENDING NATIONAL CHAMPS BAYLOR

MARTIN, Tenn. – Junior guards Heather Butler and Jasmine Newsome combined to score 52 points, but it wasn’t enough as Baylor, the defending national champions posted an 82-67 victory over The University of Tennessee at Martin in the second of three games in the Jack in the Box Rainbow Wahine Classic in Hawaii.

Butler led all scorers with 28 points, while Newsome had 24 points.

The tandem helped keep thinks close in the first half as Baylor only led by nine points, 43-32, at the half.

Britney Griner led Baylor with 18 points, while Alexis Prince tossed in 13 points, Jordan Madden scored 12 points and Kimetria Hayden netted 11 points.

Baylor, who outscored the Skyhawks 39-35 in the second half, won the battle on the boards, outrebounding UT Martin 41-30.

The Skyhawks will close out their three-game stay in Hawaii Sunday when they meet 12-time PAC-10 champion Stanford. Tipoff is set for 9 p.m.
