ELSWICK, CRASK PICK UP ALL-OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE ACCOLADES

MARTIN, Tenn. – The Ohio Valley Conference announced its 2012 volleyball postseason awards this morning, as The University of Tennessee at Martin senior Kasey Elswick was named to the All-OVC team and freshman Amanda Crask was selected as an OVC All-Newcomer.
The All-OVC selection is the third in the remarkable career for Elswick, a libero out of Louisville, Ky. She becomes the third player in program history to achieve All-OVC status in three different years, joining Rachel Ahlers (2000-02) and Lindsey Vicknair (2000-02).
Elswick leads the OVC in digs (632, 5.69 per set) and ranks 13th in the nation in that category. She racked up double-digit digs in all 30 matches and at least 20 digs in 16 matches, eclipsing the 40-dig mark twice (41 at Tennessee Tech on Sept. 29, 40 against Troy on Aug. 31). She was named the adidas OVC Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 3 and earned Capital One Academic All-District first team honors. She also became more involved in UT Martin’s offensive attack, setting new career-highs in assists (119) and kills (12) after tallying 123 assists and seven kills in her three previous seasons.
One year after she broke the NCAA’s single-season digs record, Elswick became the OVC’s all-time digs leader on Oct. 20 at Morehead State. She enters this weekend’s OVC Tournament with 2,595 career digs, which is 141 more than second place on the list.
"Kasey had another great year and she has really set the bar for future liberos in our program,” UT Martin head coach Darrin McClure said. “I’m excited that she got to finish out her career with another All-OVC honor.”
A 5-7 setter out of Louisville, Ky., Crask handed out at least 30 assists on 18 different occasions. She registered 10 double-doubles this season – seven of which came against OVC opponents – including the program’s second-ever triple-double (career-high 15 kills, 40 assists, career-high 17 digs) on Oct. 27 against SIU Edwardsville. She also piled up seven or more kills in 10 different matches and hit over .300 in a dozen contests, while her 23 service aces ranked second on the team.
“I’m proud of Amanda because she came in and worked hard to become our starting setter,” McClure said. “We feel her future is bright because she can only get better and this award is a testament to her hard work.”
The Skyhawks will take on host Morehead State in the OVC Tournament quarterfinals on Thursday, Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. CT.
