POSTSEASON BERTH POSSIBLY ON THE LINE FOR VOLLEYBALL TEAM ON SENIOR DAY SATURDAY

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball team controls its Ohio Valley Conference Tournament destiny in the 2012 regular season finale on Saturday, Nov. 10 against Jacksonville State. First serve on Senior Day is scheduled for 2 p.m.
The Skyhawks (10-19, 6-9 OVC) currently are sitting in eighth place in the OVC standings, one game ahead of Eastern Kentucky and SIU Edwardsville for the final spot into next week’s league tournament in Morehead, Ky. With a win on Saturday, UT Martin can not only seal a berth into the OVC Tournament but will jump up to the No. 7 seed.
UT Martin has won three straight against the Gamecocks, all which came last season. The Skyhawks defeated Jacksonville State 3-1 on the road, 3-2 at home and 3-2 in the OVC Tournament quarterfinals last year.
The Skyhawks are led offensively by Emily Keaton (team-highs of 252 kills, 2.42 per set), Lynsey Hazelwood (200 kills, 2.38 per set), Shelby Hoskins (team-best .227 attack percentage) and Amanda Crask (835 assists, 8.61 per set).
On defense, UT Martin is paced by senior libero Kasey Elswick. The two-time defending OVC Defensive Player of the Year leads the OVC once again in digs per set (5.70) and will be recognized for her career contributions prior to Saturday’s match. At the net, Hoskins (74 blocks, 0.76 per set) and Jackie Harter (71, 0.70) lead the Skyhawks.
Jacksonville State (13-16, 7-8 OVC) snapped a three-match losing streak on Tuesday with a 3-1 home win over Tennessee Tech (25-18, 15-25, 26-24, 25-15). Nicole Merget’s 16 kills and .382 attack percentage led the Gamecocks, while Alina Agamy (38 assists, 13 digs) secured a double-double for Jacksonville State.
Jen Meyer leads the Gamecocks with 285 kills (2.57 per set) and ranks seventh in the OVC in attack percentage (.278). Hivya Leite (2.52 kills per set), Merget (2.17) and Emily Rutherford (2.08) have all eclipsed the 200-kill mark for Jacksonville State this season.
Defensively, Kelsey Anderson’s 4.25 digs per set and Merget’s 0.95 blocks per set lead the Gamecocks.
