LATE GOAL SINKS SOCCER TEAM IN 1-0 LOSS AT SIU EDWARDSVILLE

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team seemed destined for overtime this afternoon at SIU Edwardsville, but the Cougars came up with a goal in the 88th minute that led to a 1-0 Skyhawk loss at Ralph Korte Stadium.
Despite the loss, UT Martin (6-5-3, 3-1-1 Ohio Valley Conference) remains in first place in the league standings, as it is tied with Jacksonville State and Eastern Kentucky with 10 points.
Senior Midori Sera led the Skyhawk offense with three of the team’s six shots this afternoon. Hannah McGowen, Dominika Conc and Ashley Reveiz also accounted for one shot apiece today for UT Martin, who outshot the Cougars 5-3 in the first half but could only manage one shot in the second half.
Skyhawk goalkeeper Mariah Klenke faced seven shots on goal and made six saves this afternoon.
UT Martin came out aggressive, attempting the first four shots of the match through 22:02. Conc fired a shot on goal at the 10:53 mark but SIU Edwardsville goalkeeper Jennifer Pelley was there for the save.
Klenke registered her first save of the day at the 33:13 mark, keeping the match scoreless. That was the final shot on either side for the remainder of the first half.
The first shot of the second half belonged to SIU Edwardsville, but Klenke came up with the save. Klenke tallied two more tough saves over the next 11 minutes to keep SIU Edwardsville off the scoreboard.
Reveiz fired a shot high at the 67:11 mark, but that would ultimately be the last shot attempted for the Skyhawks. SIU Edwardsville only registered two more shots the rest of the way, but Kourtney Price found the back of the net from five yards out off a free kick for the game-winner.
UT Martin returns home for its next two contests. The Skyhawks will play host to Morehead State on Friday, Oct. 12 at 7:30 p.m., followed by a showdown against Eastern Kentucky on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 1 p.m.
