VOLLEYBALL TEAM RETURNS HOME FOR A PAIR OF OVC SHOWDOWNS THIS WEEKEND

MARTIN, Tenn. – After five matches that spanned two-and-a-half weeks on the road, The University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball team returns to Skyhawk Fieldhouse this weekend to take on Ohio Valley Conference rivals Murray State (Friday, Oct. 5) and Austin Peay (Saturday, Oct. 6) at 7 p.m. and 11 a.m., respectively.
This weekend begins a four-match homestand for the Skyhawks (6-12, 2-2 OVC), who’s last home match was a 3-1 victory over Alabama A&M on Sept. 18.
UT Martin enters the weekend as the OVC leader in service aces (105, 1.54 per set) while ranking second in digs (1143, 16.81 per set).
Offensively, the Skyhawks rely on freshman Lynsey Hazelwood, who has slammed down a team-high 158 kills (2.72 per set). The freshman out of Louisville, Ky. also ranks second in the OVC in service aces at 0.41 per set.
Emily Keaton (138 kills, 2.23 per set), Dallas Zimmerman (104, 1.73 per set) and Shelby Hoskins (100, 1.75 per set) have also reached triple-digits in kills, while Jackie Harter (99 kills, 1.62 per set) enters the weekend on the verge of becoming UT Martin’s fifth player with 100 or more kills on the season.
Freshman setter Amanda Crask has shined lately, tallying 15 kills, 76 assists and 20 digs in her last two matches. For the season, she averages 1.42 kills, 8.56 assists and 1.91 digs per set.
Defensively, senior Kasey Elswick paces the OVC with 375 digs (5.86 per set). The libero out of Louisville, Ky. ranks second in league history with 2,338 digs. Hoskins’ 43 blocks (0.75 per set) leads the Skyhawks at the net.
Murray State (3-11, 1-3 OVC) enters the match on a four-game losing streak, falling at home to nonconference foe Southern Illinois on Tuesday night. In that match, the Racers held a 2-0 lead before conceding the next three sets.
The Racer offense is paced by Taylor Olden, who is responsible for a team-high 136 kills. Emily Schmahl (team-best 2.73 kills per set) and Lia Havili (9.33 assists per set) also lead Murray State.
Defensively, Katlyn Hudson has scooped up 174 digs (3.78 per set) and Alyssa Lelm has turned away 46 blocks (0.92 per set).
Austin Peay (8-11, 2-2 OVC) leads the conference in hitting percentage (.218) and has won five of its last seven. The Lady Govs fell at Eastern Kentucky (3-0) on Saturday despite a match-high 14 kills from Nikki Doyle.
Jada Stotts leads the OVC in points (272, 4.12 per set) and has amassed a league-high 246 kills (3.73 per set) to lead Austin Peay. Doyle (200 kills, 3.03 per set) also paces the Lady Gov offense, while Cami Fields’ 10.22 assists per set and Lauren Henderson’s 29 service aces lead the league in their respective categories.
Stotts (2.89 digs per set) and Doyle (2.56) lead Austin Peay’s defensive attack, while Henderson’s 44 blocks (0.67 per set) are a team-high for the Lady Govs.
