MIXED RIFLE TEAM SHATTERS A PAIR OF SCHOOL RECORDS IN FIRST TWO MATCHES OF FALL SEASON

Memphis Results Murray State Results
MARTIN, Tenn. – It was a highly successful season debut for The University of Tennessee at Martin rifle teams this past weekend, compiling a pair of school records in their matches at Memphis and Murray State.
Last Saturday at Memphis, the Skyhawk mixed team set a new UT Martin benchmark for air rifle scores (2,328) and aggregate score (4,601). The air rifle record had stood since UT Martin posted 2,318 points in the 2006 NCAA qualifier.
Individually, 15 career-highs were set while 11 of UT Martin’s 13 shooters either set or tied at least one career-high. The Skyhawks’ scores from both the Memphis and Murray State matches topped the team’s best score last season.
“This weekend was just a superb performance by the entire team,” UT Martin head coach Bob Beard said. “I couldn’t be more proud of each and every one of our players.”
In the Memphis Tiger Open, senior Jessica Cobb led the way with an impressive career-high 590 score (98-98-99-98-99-98) in the air rifle. Steve Hahn followed not too far behind with his score of 588, while Mark McClallen posted a career-high tally of 576. Dana Maurizio (574) and Joe Barefoot (562) capped off the scoring for the mixed squad.
Freshman Sean O’Brien (career-high 566), Jordan Jensen (530) and Jacob Stolley (529) also competed as individuals for the Skyhawk mixed team.
UT Martin’s mixed squad posted a smallbore score of 2,273, led by Hahn’s 577. Maurizio and Barefoot each followed with career-high scores of 574 and 570, respectively. McClallen (552) and O’Brien (547) rounded out the scoring.
Cobb shot a 539, Jensen fired a 518 and Stolley compiled 486 points for the mixed team.
On the women’s side, the team posted a total score of 4,440 (2,249 air rifle, 2,191 smallbore).
Jamie Arnett’s 571 tied a career-best and paced the team in air rifle. Freshman Nikki Kroll also reached a 571, followed by Kelly James (557), Jordan Goodwin (550) and a career-best effort from Jennifer Greeves (547).
In smallbore, James paced the women’s team with a total of 564 points. Goodwin fired a career-high 557, while Kroll shot a 551. Greeves (519) and Arnett (515) completed the scoring for UT Martin.
On Sunday at Murray State, the UT Martin mixed team tallied an aggregate score of 4,571 (2,310 air rifle, 2,261 smallbore). The Skyhawk women’s team was responsible for 4,465 points (2,266 air rifle, 2,199 smallbore).
Maurizio led the mixed team in air rifle with her career-best 585 score. McClallen (583) and O’Brien (571) each posted career-high efforts, while Cobb and Barefoot completed the scoring with 571 and 570 points, respectively.
Jensen (543) and Stolley (530) also competed for the UT Martin mixed team.
Maurizio also paced the mixed squad in smallbore, generating 572 points. McClallen and Cobb set new career-highs with scores of 569 and 562, respectively. O’Brien (558) and Barefoot (554) rounded out the scoring.
Also setting a new career-high was Jensen, who fired a 538. Stolley (481) also took part in the smallbore competition.
In air rifle, Kroll set a new career-high tally with an impressive 585, followed by James’ career-high 578. Goodwin (560) and Greeves (543) completed the scoring for the women’s squad.
James’ career-best 569 set the tone for the women’s team in smallbore. Kroll posted a score of 554 while Goodwin and Greeves recorded scores of 546 and 530, respectively.
The Skyhawks return to action this Sunday, Oct. 7 when they travel to Ole Miss.
