MARTIN, Tenn. – After a 19-day road swing, The University of Tennessee at Martin soccer squad returns home for its first two Ohio Valley Conference matches at Skyhawk Field when it hosts Austin Peay on Friday, Sept. 28 (7 p.m.) and Murray State on Sunday, Sept. 30 (2 p.m.).
At Friday’s match against in-state rival Austin Peay, the first 150 fans can receive a grilled hot dog or smoked bologna and chips, as well as a slew of toppings and drink options. Skyhawk fans can also win prizes if they share UT Martin Athletics’ link on Facebook. All prizewinners must be in attendance to be eligible.
This weekend will also serve as Alumni Weekend for the Skyhawk soccer program. Various UT Martin alumni will be recognized during halftime of each match on the two-game homestand.
UT Martin is 3-4-3 overall but is unbeaten in its last four matches (2-0-2) and has not lost since Sept. 7. The Skyhawks have not lost to Austin Peay since 2006 and tied Murray State last season.
The Skyhawks are coming off a hard-fought 1-1 tie at Southeast Missouri on Tuesday in their OVC opener. In that match, UT Martin senior Kendyl Wilson scooted in her team-high fifth goal of the 2012 campaign and sophomore goalkeeper Mariah Klenke made two of her four saves after the match was tied at 1-all to ensure the tie.
Wilson leads the OVC in points (13), ranking second in the league in goals (five) and third in assists (three). In fact, a trio of Skyhawks is tied for third in the conference in assists, as Hannah McGowen and Dominika Conc have tallied three assists as well. Senior Midori Sera ranks third in the league in shots (26) for UT Martin, who pace the OVC in points (53), shots (164) and assists (17).
Klenke has been hot as of late – registering a 0.48 Goals Against Average over her last four matches. She has conceded only two goals in her last 373:49 in goal.
Austin Peay is currently 4-5 with an 0-1 OVC record, falling 1-0 to Murray State last Sunday. In that match, the Lady Govs outshot the Racers 12 to three but the Racers came away with the lone goal of the match in the 70th minute.
Offensively, Austin Peay ranks second in the OVC in shots (160) behind UT Martin. Four Lady Govs have scored at least three goals apiece, led by Tatiana Ariza, who leads the league in shots (36) and assists (four). Andy Quiceno also has found the back of the net three times and leads the conference with two game-winning goals.
Haylee Shoaff has logged the majority of the minutes in goal for Austin Peay, sporting a 1.54 GAA. She sports a .750 save percentage, making 42 saves in 10 matches.
Murray State (3-5, 1-0 OVC) enters the weekend on a three-match win streak. Veronica Pribyslavska netted the game-winner against Austin Peay last week and is tied for the conference lead in game-winning goals (two).
Pribyslavska accounts for five of the Racers’ 11 goals, while Meg Hudson and Jenna Finke have also scored two goals apiece.
The Racers have received a lift recently from goalkeeper Latisha Stevenson, who posts a league-leading 0.30 GAA and .933 save percentage. Overall, she has allowed just one goal in 296:57 spread out over four matches.
