MARTIN, Tenn. – In an ongoing effort to raise money for injured Southeast Missouri player Meg Herndon, The University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team raised more than $400 yesterday to go towards Herndon’s hospital bills.

Skyhawk head coach Phil McNamara was humbled by the start of the three-day effort.

“I was amazed at the generosity and loving concern showed by the UT Martin students,” McNamara said. “All sorts of different people offered to help – from football players to Greek organizations to student government associations – and many others indicated they would offer prayers of concern.”

Herndon was injured on Sept. 9 in a vehicular accident and is currently in an Intensive Care Unit. The Skyhawks are accepting all donations outside the campus cafeteria today (Sept. 19) and tomorrow (Sept. 20) from 11 a.m. through 2 p.m. Every penny of the contributions raised will go directly towards Herndon’s care.

“I appeal to everyone to go out of their way to drop off their change by the cafeteria,” McNamara said. “Specifically I’d like to reach out to the members of our coaching staff and our student-athletes to come by and support Meg as best as they can.”
