CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS TRAVEL TO VANDERBILT INVITATIONAL

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin cross country teams were amongst 75 teams competing in the stacked Vanderbilt Invitational on Saturday at Percy Ward Park.
Amanda Wardlaw led the women’s team with a time of 24:31.83 in the 6k run Gold division. Kaycee Grimes (26:10.54) and Alexandra Stover (26:11.84) slotted back-to-back finishes, followed by a close pack including Kathryn Skaggs (26:25.82), Samantha Hunt (26:27.17), Laura Wind (26:27.28) and Hannah Wolters (26:31.47). Abby Frantom and Grace Lucas posted final times of 27:53.40 and 29:31.49, respectively.
On the men’s side, Tallon Scott paced the Skyhawks with a final time of 28:52.05 in the 8k run Gold division. Following closely behind was Justin Morgan (28:54.24), while Ryan Pett’s time of 29:05.83 was the next best time for UT Martin. Josiah Roberts completed the course in 29:10.96, while Trevor Hancock (30:51.31), Zach Phifer (31:16.17) and Mark Graubner (31:17.94) rounded out the field for the Skyhawk men’s team.
“Everyone was given a specific pace and group to run with and they did that this weekend,” UT Martin head coach Gordon Sanders said. “The event is done and we will get back to racing in two weeks.”
The Skyhawks return to action on Saturday, Sept. 29 when they travel to Memphis to participate in the Rhodes Invite.
