GOLFERS ONE OF TWO TEAMS UNDER PAR AFTER SECOND ROUND OF WASIOTO WINDS FALL KICK-OFF INVITATIONAL

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin golf team shot a two-round 574, 2-under par, and is in second place in the Wasioto Winds Fall Kick-Off Invitational in Pineville, Ky. Morehead State is hosting the three-round tournament. Murray State, the only other team in the tournament to shoot under par, leads the tournament with a two-round 565, 11-under par.

The two teams battled in the first round as Murray State edged UT Martin by four strokes. The Racer golfers fired a 282, while the Skyhawks shot 288.

 “All in all it was a good effort for us,” UT Martin head golf coach Jerry Carpenter said. “I am proud of Two Skyhawk golfers are among the top five after two rounds in the two-day tournament. Junior Tyler Shellnut is tied for first with a two-round 137. He shot a 3-under 69 in the first round a 4-under 68 in the second round. Shellnut recorded 10 birdies on after 36 holes.

Sophomore Brendon Caballero, who was tied for the lead after the first round, shot a two-round 141. He shot a 4-under 68 in the first round and was 1-over in the second round with a 73. Caballero made nine birdie putts in the two rounds.

UT Martin freshman Tyler Guy, playing in his first collegiate tournament, par 29 of the 36 holes.

The Skyhawks are one of four Ohio Valley Conference teams in the 14-team tournament field. Other OVC schools include Murray State, Eastern Illinois and Morehead State.

The third and final round of the tournament gets under way at 10 a.m. Central Time, Wednesday.
