MARTIN, Tenn. -- The University of Tennessee at Martin Skyhawk football team put on shoulder pads and helmets for the first time in fall camp as it prepares for the 2012 season.

“We definitely improved ourselves in the secondary,” UT Martin head coach Jason Simpson said. “We are a faster football team and you can tell the guys worked hard in the offseason. Seeing the turnovers from tonight were encouraging, you can tell we have a lot more explosion on defense.”

The defense was able to get the best of the offense overall as the secondary shut down the Skyhawk offense. However, local freshman Ladevin Fair from Obion County Central High School broke the defense on a couple of occasions for touchdowns.

Simpson ended the practice with a couple of coach-included sprints from sideline to sideline.|

“It doesn’t matter how many touchdowns we scored last year, we are only as good as our last practice, so it’s time to get back to work,” Simpson said.
