WOMEN'S TENNIS TEAM CLAIMS OVC ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

MARTIN, Tenn. –The women’s tennis team at The University of Tennessee at Martin was the recipient of one of 16 Ohio Valley Conference Academic Achievement Awards, which are presented annually in each Conference-sponsored sport to the member institution's team with the greatest percentage of its eligible student-athletes who achieved a 3.25 grade point average or higher.
“This is an outstanding honor for our team,” UT Martin head tennis coach Dennis Taylor said. “Our players know that they have to perform to the highest level in the classroom as well as on the court. Academic success, such as this achievement award, is a tradition we try to uphold every semester.”
In all, 10 different member institutions garnered at least one award. The team and institution honorees are:
Baseball: Murray State
Men's Basketball: Tennessee Tech
Women's Basketball: Eastern Illinois
Men's Cross Country: Murray State
Women's Cross Country: Southeast Missouri State
Football: Eastern Kentucky
Men's Golf: SIUE
Women's Golf: Austin Peay
Rifle: Morehead State
Women's Soccer: Jacksonville State
Softball: Tennessee Tech
Men's Tennis: Austin Peay
Women's Tennis: UT Martin
Men's Track and Field: Eastern Kentucky
Women's Track and Field: Morehead State
Women's Volleyball: Morehead State
In addition, UT Martin finished fourth in the race for the 2011-12 OVC Institutional Academic Achievement Award. Morehead State University was first, while Murray State finished second. SIU Edwardsville was third and Eastern Kentucky was fifth.
The award is presented annually to the member institution with the greatest percentage of its eligible student-athletes who earn a 3.25 grade point average or higher for that academic year.
