EQUESTRIAN TEAM ADDS EXPERIENCED WESTERN RIDER FROM NORTH CAROLINA
May 27, 2010
MARTIN, Tenn. - Meghan Cunningham, the women's head equestrian coach at The University of Tennessee at Martin announced she has signed Carly Lamb, a Western rider from Morganton, N.C. to a scholarship. Lamb is the second Western rider Cunningham has signed this spring.
"I am excited to add Carly to our team," Cunningham said. "She brings a wealth of experience with her. Like so many of our young riders, Carly has the potential to make an immediate impact."
Lamb served as the president of the Patton High School Equestrian Club from 2009-10 and as the president of the Burke County 4-H from 2006-2010. She has competed in the North Carolina State 4-H Horse program on the county, district and state levels for the past eight years where she has won multiple championship honors in Western and Gaited Horse Division. She was among the top 10 overall as a Western Youth exhibitor in the 2009 North Carolina State Fair.
A four-year member of the academic excellence honor roll at R.L. Patton High School, Lamb also played basketball and helped the Panthers make it to the state playoffs for the first time in school history.
Lamb was involved with colt starting and correcting problems on more than a dozen horses while earning a two-year advanced horsemanship certification from 2007-08.
"I liked the whole layout of the school when I visited UT Martin and I like the smaller class sizes," Lamb said.
UT Martin's success in equestrian on the national level is what ultimately led to Lamb signing with the Skyhawks. "The equestrian team is smaller than other schools and is very competitive," she said.
Lamb, the daughter of James and Carol Lamb of Morganton, NC, aspires to become a large animal veterinarian.
