AUSTIN PEAY SHUTS DOWN SKYHAWK BASEBALL TEAM IN FIRST GAME OF OVC TWINBILL
May 22, 2010
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - UT Martin Juniors Trey Karlen and Cody Terry didn't waste any time saying hello to Austin Peay starter Ricky Marshall. The one and two hitters for the Skyhawks hit first pitch fastballs. While Karlen's amounted to nothing but a long fly ball, Terry blasted the second pitch of the game over the left field fence to give the Skyhawks a 1-0 lead.
Those first two hits and a fifth-inning triple by Karlen were the only highlights for The University of Tennessee at Martin in the first game of today's Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader at Raymond C. Hand Park.
Marshall settled down and led the Govs to a 9-3 victory over the Skyhawks. He pitched all seven innings, giving up six hits, three runs and three walks. He struck out four and closes out the 2010 season with a 7-6 worksheet.
Austin Peay was not the most gracious host for UT Martin freshman starter Dan Tobik who worked two innings and gave up four hits, six runs and five walks. He struck out three and fell to 3-2 on the year with the mound loss. Sophomore Brendan Lozupone pitched four innings in the game and gave up six hits and two runs. He struck out two.
Austin Peay's Adam Browett roughed up Tobik, Alec Mills and Lozupone in the seven-inning game. Browett was 3-for-3 with two RBI. He had two doubles and a home run in the game. Freshman John Hogan was 2-for-3 against the Skyhawks.
With the loss the Skyhawks fall to 24-30 on the year and 8-13 in the OVC. Austin Peay improves to 27-25 overall and 7-11in the league.
