UT MARTIN AND OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE ENCOURAGING DONATIONS TO TENNESSEE FLOOD RELEIF DURING SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT
May 12, 2010
MARTIN, Tenn. - In an effort to help its neighbors in middle and west Tennessee, The University of Tennessee at Martin softball team and the Ohio Valley Conference are encouraging all fans to bring canned food items to the 2010 OVC Softball Tournament at Bettye Giles Field, May 13-15. Donations will be collected for the entirety of the three-day tournament and will go directly to flood victims in need throughout all of Tennessee's affected neighborhoods.
Admission to the OVC Tournament is free of charge, but all fans encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item that will be donated to designated food banks and shelters throughout the area. The donated items will help replenish the stock that was severely dwindled after the food banks themselves were hit during the floods. The most needed items include peanut butter, cereal, crackers, canned meat, vegetables, fruit and soup.
The OVC Tournament will begin play Thursday morning at 11 a.m., then the top-seeded Skyhawks will begin their quest for a second-straight OVC Tournament title Thursday at 6:30 p.m. UT Martin will take on the winner of the 4 p.m. game between No. 4 Eastern Illinois and No. 5 Murray State.
