EQUESTRIAN TEAM CLOSES OUT REGULAR SEASON AT HOME AGAINST SMU, CELEBRATES SENIOR DAY

MARTIN, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee at Martin equestrian team will close out its regular season at 11 a.m. tomorrow (Friday, March 26) at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Complex with a Hunter Seat competition against SMU.

The Skyhawks will also honor seniors Michelle Thompson and Courtney Iachini during the competition.

Thompson recorded a 17-point victory against Auburn in Equitation earlier this season. She also has a win in Equitation against Delaware State. She has been unable to compete since the semester started because of a knee injury. She posted a 7-3 record in Equitation as a junior and collected a MVP honor for Equitation. She was 4-3 in Equitation over Fences and named the team's overall MVP for the season. Thompson has been a member of the equestrian team for the past four seasons. She was 3-4 in Equitation on the Flat and 1-2 in Equitation over Fences as a sophomore. As a freshman, Thompson earned MVP honors against Stephen F. Austin and Auburn. She out scored her opponents on average by seven points in Equitation on the Flat.

Iachini has been a member of the equestrian team the past three years. She competed in Horsemanship earlier this season against Georgia. She received the team's sportsmanship award as a junior. During her sophomore year, she competed at the Best of the West Tournament at Fresno, Calif., against Texas Christian and Delaware State.

UT Martin's Hunter Seat team is led by Kelsy Abell and Caroline Cramer in Equitation on the Flat, while Cramer leads the team in Equitation over Fences with a 6-5 worksheet and five MVPs.

SMU is led by Maia Van Dyke in Equitation on the Flat with a 5-3 record and two MVPs. #SKYHAWKS#
