MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Freshman Anna Winkelmann won at No. 4 singles for The University of Tennessee at Martin to run her record to 5-0 during the 2010 season, but the Skyhawks couldn't catch any breaks and fell in several close matches, 6-1 to Memphis.

Winkelmann picked up a 7-5, 6-4 win over Amanda Brown, but that was the only point the Skyhawks could muster.

In the doubles competition, Winkelmann and Herbold came the closest to a victory before falling 8-5 to Amanda Brown and Andrea Arques-Garcia at No. 3. Jodie Tiley and Alice Laing fell 8-3 at No. 2 to Courtney Collins and Kelly Gray, while Ashley Murdock and Marjorie Ondeck defeated Martie Wahl and Belisa de Brito 8-2 at No. 1.

Wahl and Herbold each battled through three sets before falling 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 at No. 3 and 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 at No. 6, respectively. At No. 5, de Brito put up a fight before falling 7-5, 7-6 (6) to Gray, while Murdock defeated Tiley 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 and Collins defeated Johanie Van Zyl 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2.

"We lost 6-1, but if you take a look at the individual singles scores, you will see the match was very close," UT Martin head coach Dennis Taylor said. "We are improving with every match. The question is can we peak during the conference tournament."

The Skyhawks return to action this Wednesday, March 24 in an Ohio Valley Conference match at Eastern Illinois. The action from Charleston is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
