SKYHAWK GOLF MOVES AMONG TOP TEN IN SECOND ROUND OF GROVER PAGE CLASSIC

JACKSON, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee at Martin golf team showed a 27 stroke improvement in its second round from its opening 18, vaulting into the top ten at the Grover Page Classic. The Skyhawks carded a 9-over-par 297 in the second round and sit at 324-297-621 heading into tomorrow mornings final round.
Named for legendary UT Martin golf coach Grover Page, the Grover Page Classic is a 54-hole stroke play tournament conducted by The University of Tennessee at Martin and hosted at Jackson Country Club in Jackson, Tenn. The 88-player field is made up of 16 teams, including six from Tennessee, and eight participants competing as individuals. The par-72 Jackson Country Club course is playing at 6,783 yards in length.
Page, who became the program's first coach in 1967, guided the program to eight appearances in the NCAA Championships, including a top-10 finish in 1988. In his career Page also coached 11 All-American Team members, 16 All-Gulf South Conference honorees, five All-Ohio Valley Conference selections and one GSC Tournament individual medalist. His teams finished among the GSC's top three five times and once as a member of the OVC.
Helping lead the charge in the second round for UT Martin were Christopher Schwartz and Jon Martin who again fired identical rounds of 1-over-par 73. Both sit in a tie for 26th place among the individuals at 6-over-par 151. Improving his first round showing by three strokes, Adam Clark moved into a tie for 38th place at 11-over-par 155, with a second round showing of 4-over-par 76. Bailey Childress showed a 12 stroke improvement with his second round 5-over-par 77 in round two, while Sam Hinson recovered from his disappointing first round with a 3-over-par 75, to sit at 23-over-par 167.
The UT Martin Orange Team fired an identical 30-over-par 318 in the second round. Ryan DuLaney is tied with Clark at 38th position at 11-over-par 155 after two rounds, while Graham Sleigh found trouble in round two and fell back to 15-over-par 159. One stroke back at 16-over-par 160 is Barton Hamilton after a second round 84. Rounding out the scoring for the Orange team was Taylor Deming at 18-over-par 162 after improving by 12 strokes over his first round with a 3-over-par 75.
In the team competition Central Arkansas added to its lead with a 9-under-par 279 second round showing, moving it to 20-under-par 556 for the tournament. In second place, 24 strokes back, is North Alabama at 4-over-par 580, while Tennessee State remains in third at 13-over-par 589.
In the individual Central Arkansas' Gideon Pienaar moved ahead of the pack by two strokes with rounds of 7-under-par 68-69-137. He leads his teammate, Antonio Costa who sits at 68-71-139, while Brett Munson of North Alabama, Chris Seibel from Tennessee State and Josh Sims all sit in a tie for third at 4-under-par 140.
Final round action of the Grover Page Classic will tee off at 10 a.m., pushed back from its original 8:30 a.m. start time because of the expected light snow fall overnight, with a shotgun start.
